Michael Thomas Cooper is an experienced trial lawyer representing plaintiffs in catastrophic personal injury and civil rights cases at Apostolou Cooper Attorneys at Law. Michael’s civil litigation practice includes cases relating to tractor-trailer wrecks, motorcycle wrecks, dram shop (liquor liability/ drunk driver), child sexual abuse, medical malpractice, general negligence, and civil rights claims brought pursuant to 42 U.S.C. § 1983. He has also successfully represented clients in sophisticated contract dispute litigation. Michael has obtained tens of millions of dollars in settlements and verdicts on behalf of his personal injury clients.
Michael Thomas Cooper joined Apostolou Law Firm after gaining substantial trial experience at a Charleston-area boutique injury law firm and the Charleston County Public Defender’s Office. As a Public Defender, Michael represented more than 750 individuals charged with serious crimes and misdemeanors and tried more than 30 cases to verdict. Michael has fought to protect the rights of all citizens throughout his career.
Michael is a Charleston native. He attended Bishop England High School and the College of Charleston. Michael received his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he graduated cum laude and as a member of the Order of Wig and Robe honors society.
Michael is a member of the South Carolina Association for Justice, the South Carolina Bar Association, and the Charleston County Bar Association. Michael has also been an active member of the Charleston community where he has served as a member of the Historic Rotary Club of Charleston, the president of his neighborhood association and the board of One New Humanity Charleston.
Michael and his wife, Emily, have two boys who he loves to chase around when not in the office.
